Adventures In Skiing

Skiing has never appealed to me. Jay used to go skiing in his “before Kim days” often, sometimes once a week. However, he hasn’t been in 21 years. The 21 years that we have been together. Jackson has asked to go skiing for the last two years and this past weekend we had an opportunity to go with a group of friends from church to Cataloochee Ski Area. Hailey and I didn’t ski, we colored in the warmth of the “lodge” and watched the fun from the large picture windows above the slopes.
Jackson loved his first time skiing, but did not love the awkward ski boots. I really didn’t get to see him do much skiing since I was with Hailey and not out there myself (which I’m sure saved us a trip to the ER). But everyone came back with lots of fun stories about a ride of shame, finding candy bars on ski lifts, slow signs and the lack of running into them, 75 foot head first slides, Big Lots toilet paper and supper at Wendy's (where Jay didn't make a buck this time).

It Burns When Ketchup Comes Out Your Nose

After a cold afternoon on the golf course, Carrie and I decided for the other six members of our families that we would be heading to Wendy's for chili for supper. Little did we know that the kiddos would make a buck while we were there!

The scene:
Jay & Brad were sitting across from each other and Carrie and I were beside them, across from each other. The kiddos were at the table next to us.

The story unfolds:
A very nice man came over to Jay and Brad's side of the table and asked if it would be OK to give each of the kids a silver dollar.

We exclaimed: Awwww.... how nice! Sure!

The man (looking at Jay): they're right here in my front pocket, just reach right in there and get them.

I couldn't really see Jay's face, since he was beside me and facing the man, but I could see Brad's. And.it.was.priceless!

Jay: Are you serious?

The man: Sure! I don't have any fingers (and he shows Jay his fingerless hands) and I can't pull them out.

Carrie and I are useless with laughter and Brad wasn't much help either.

After a lot of hesitation and looking around Wendy's to be sure he wasn't on candid camera, Jay reached into the man's pocket and tried to pull it inside out so that the silver dollars would just fall out. After a little bit of struggling the prize for the kiddos was reviled. YAY!

A very nice gesture, but a little awkward.

Carrie and I have decided that we will be hanging out at Wendy's in Clarkesville this summer, but we'll be sure to bring a pair of long grabby things when Jay isn't with us!
